How to open a bank account in a Greek bank

If you want to buy a house in Greece, opening a bank account is strongly recommended. It ensures the transparency of all purchase-related transactions and provides all necessary tax documentation to be submitted annually to the Greek tax authorities for your annual declaration of income, property, and other expenses.

In order to open a bank account in a Greek bank you will need:

1. Copy of your passport or identity card.
2. Greek tax number.
3. Proof of your home address.
4. Proof of your profession.
5. Proof of your professional address.
6. Proof of your recent annual and monthly income.
7. Certificate of tax residence. It is issued by the tax authority of your country and proves that your country’s tax authorities certify that you are a resident of this country within the meaning of the tax convention signed between this latter and Greece.
8. Your home and professional phone numbers as shown on any official document.
9. If you are not present, you should sign a power of attorney to a proxy to open the bank account for you.
